Hello Out There?? Anyone with Filshie Clips??

Hi everyone.  I am hoping that some of you can help me out.  I am looking for those of you who have or had filshie clips used in your tubal ligation.  I am in the process of writing an article that I hope to persuade a more main stream magazine to run.  I am looking for your experience with filshie clips, if you feel they caused you pain, if you got them without knowing that was what they were using, or if your clips fell off and/or migrated to another part of your body.  Basically, I am looking for any experience with the filshie clips, good or bad.  It is my sincere desire to get the word out about PTLS and about the misinformation about sterilization.  Please help me by relaying your experiences and thoughts on the subject.  Thank you for your help!

  1. I'm not sure if it is the same brand....but I am still dealing with one "floating around" inside me. These clips falling off have caused a lot of frustration and health issues. I wished I would have known before surgery as I never would have had it.

  2. Thank you for your response. The floating clips cause nothing but problems. The same issues happen with both the Filshie, and Hulka Clips. Many docs are now willing to remove them. I don't know if this is an option for you or not, but it might be worth it.

  3. I had 2 Filshie clips on each tube at the time of the c-section of baby #3. I was 36 at the time. I didn't know I had 2 placed on each tube. When I was almost through with breastfeeding, my period resumed and it was very painful the first couple of months. The bleeding was very heavy. I had never had heavy bleeding like this before. After about a year, the heavy bleeding subsided and my period returned to normal. I have had a TR in May of 2011 because I would like to try for a 4th baby.During the TR, I lost my left tube, and the right was repaired at 7cm in length.

  4. I am so sorry that you lost your left tube. I am sure you have read that many women conceive quickly and easily with only one tube. 7 cm is a great length to be left with. Sticky baby dust to you, and be sure to try the magnesium. I really think that is what allowed me to become pregnant at almost 41. Blessings to you!

  5. I had a tubal ligation in February of 2011. After the surgery I had an ebb and flow of pain radiating from my left lower abdomen. I went to several doctors who finally told me I had kidney stones but that they should be causing me no pain as they were still in my kidney and not migrating. When they asked for an xray to show exactly where the stones were, they found a filshie clip the doctor had not told me that he had "lost" during the surgery and it was located exactly where all my pain had been radiating from! I had to argue with the doctor to take it out and I am scheduling the surgery today so they can hopefully find it and remove it.

As Justice stated, my periods are much heavier than normal but are slowly starting to stabilize.

  6. I have been having severe pain on my left side for about two years and it was suggested that I have a hysterectomy (partial possibly full) done due to a 2cm cyst on my right ovary. I refused and never believed that a cyst on my right ovary was the cause of pain on my left side. I have been experiencing heavier than normal cycles and constipation and anemia with the pain still there but just bearing it (I think I have a high tolerence for pain). During the last two weeks the pain has become more noticable and I am just starting another cycle. Today I went to the restroom and out pops (onto the toilet seat protector) this metal clip when I wipped myself. I was able to get the clip and after research figured it out to be a filshie clip. I am waiting on a call back from my doctors office now. I believe this has been the source of my pain all this time.

    1. I have been experiencing this issue for about 8 weeks now. I was told that I have a cyst that is complicated on my right ovary causing pain on my left side. Like you I do not believe that a cyst is causing this pain. I had my tub ligation done almost six years ago and I am 27 years old. Not to mention my periods have been heavier then they ever have been in my life. I have also been told by my partner that he can feel the clamp during intercourse which has never been and issue before. I am scared at this point because my regular physician is saying that the cyst can be an indication of endometriosis. I am so glad that I found your post and that I am not alone.

  7. In July 2010 I had a c section during which a TL was performed. I had authorized a TL never having been consulted on clips being used. The only way I knew about them was after waking up my dr. was talking to me and telling me how she felt things went. Since July 2010 I have had a tenderness, full feeling in my abdomen that has never gone away. I was attributing it to the extremely difficult c section my dr. performed, because it took 3 months for me to be able to walk without doubling over in pain. I assumed I must still be healing from the "train wreck" however after 3 months I began having my period again, despite breastfeeding. This seemed odd to me because after the c section birth of my daughter, and breastfeeding her I didn't start for the first 7 months. I also noticed there was greater discomfort while menstruating that I had never had before. Gradually that tenderness has worsened as has the amount of blood and cramping. I wake up feeling like I was ran over by a truck, my whole body aches, I am constantly exhausted. I have dizziness at random as well as SHARP stabbing pains located on my left side (where my ovary is). I thought the pain in my abdomen and the other symptoms were separate actually. I suffered with gestational diabetes and have been thinking I may be coming down with type 2 which would be the reason for the exhaustion. Getting older being my reason for the body aches but thankfully after a little research I now have a check list of PTLS I can take to my dr. I'm not sure if my clips are the same brand that you are referring to but I do know I'm not going to be satisfied until they are out. My man can get fixed, living in hell like this for the rest of my life is for the birds.

  8. I had a TL done after giving birth to my second son in may 2009, I am was 23 when I had it done so I was young and didn't kno much about TL, I assumed they just cut, tie, and burn you. Well my 2nd c-section was much different then my first, I was in so much pain, I was having night flashes and doubling over in pain for months, well some how I learned to deal with the pain, until about 7 months ago I was informed that I had the clips put on, I haven been in the hospital several times for this pain, I have had several ultrasound done and pelvic exams, and nothing. I have also talked to my doctor about maybe the clips being the problem and so far every doctor I have been to has looked at me like I'm crazy! I was young when I had this done and didn't kno clips were even an option, if I would have known I would have never had it done! I retreat the TL everyday, I have become depressed, and the constant pain is taking a toll on me... :( I wish I had the money I would get theses clips removed in a heart beat...

  9. To all of you who have posted about your filshie clips: I am so sorry you have all endured that pain that I felt. You can get insurance to pay for the removal, IF it is for pain relief. What they absolutely will not pay for is a reversal. They can go in a remove the clips only, and that is covered by insurance. You can tell them that you are allergic to nickel and there is a component of nickel that is used in the titanium alloy that the clips are made from. For those of you who have got the clips in the last 5 years, and you are in the US, they are undoubtedly Filshie Clips. I cannot believe the difference it made to have mine removed. They caused so much pain. I never have sharp stabbing pains anymore. I am also convinced that I had an allergic reaction to them, as I had a rash down my back and arms, and down my abdomen that went away in just a couple of days after having the clips removed.

Now here is my disclaimer: Do not have the clips removed if what you really want is a reversal. If you really want to have more children, then you need to save and wait for a reversal because having the clips removed will take away from the amount of tube that you have left. Also, my good friend had this done, and the doc decided to do her a "favor" and burn her tubes 3 times on each side. It made finding someone to do a reversal almost impossible. Just something to consider.

  10. After doing a lot more research as well as investigating what type of clips I have, I have found out that I do indeed have the filshie clips and I'm more than convinced they are the reason for ALL of my issues. My question to you is if I am also having PTLS symptoms then wouldn't I need to get a reversal and not just the clips removed? I'm suppose to be going to a dr. later that can do reversals...I NEED the insurance to pay for it if possible as it effects my daily living, however I'm unsure if just the removal of the clips would solve everything or just solve the abdominal pain. I need to be back to normal! I can't handle these horrible menstrual cramps and heavy periods til I reach menopause...from what I've read that has more to do with the actual TL regardless of how it was performed, right? To be rid of all the "damage" that was done I believe I'd have to get a complete reversal...in that case do you know if insurance pays for that?? What would I need to do to prove it's for medical reasons and not to have more kids? We are going to get my fiance' a vasectomy so we've pretty well decided we are done with kids, I just don't know how to get the insurance to help out as much as possible here. It's crazy! I could have had a reversal for $6,000 right? Well insurance has picked up the bill for 3 that's right 3 CT scans in the last month. That's a little over $5,000 PER SCAN!! They'd be saving money if they would just listen to me and do the reversal!!!

  11. Just because it makes sense to us, doesn't mean it makes sense to the medical community, even when you talk dollars and cents. They are going to put their foot down if you want a full reversal. It is my understanding from women who have had just the clips removed, that you can get the stabbing type pain to go away, but not the ptls symptoms. And as far as vasectomy goes, please don't have your man cut. It is as damaging for them as it is for women. For the first year after, they stop making testosterone. Sterilization is a disaster for both sexes. Look up post vasectomy pain syndrome. You won't like what you read. I wish I had a way to help you make the insurance pay for this but I don't. I know that Chapel Hill takes payment plans where you open like a savings account and you keep paying until the surgery is paid for. So sorry you are feeling poorly. I know exactly what you are talking about and it was the worst time in my life.

  12. Just an update...I got my reversal on Sept 28th, exactly 14 months after the TL! I've posted updates on my blog at the improvements I've already had only 5 days post reversal!! Thank you thank you Michelle! You changed my life!

I would of never gotten clamped...I am in Ontario we have to pay to have them taken out and I cannot afford it just to feel better.. Good luck to all..Depressed and suffering in Ontario.

  15. I have had the filshie clip procedure done back in 04 7rs now. I regret that I ever got this procedure. I feel like my body aged 10 years immediatly after I had this procedure done. I have the pain, the discomfort periods & cramping constantly ext. I feel I was not informed clearly on the filshie clips, I was just told it was best for if I ever wanted a reversal. Wrong!! I thought having the procedure will be better than dealing with birth-control ext. and the way it made me feel, however I should have just been told to take better care of myself when I was younger and take iron vitamins ext. instead of thinking it was the birth controll pills making me feel tired, I learned now it was low iron which could simply been taken care of with some iron pills and b12. Being un-educated about a matter caused me to make the stupidest decision ever getting filshie clips. I learned there is no better or easy way around of not becoming pregnant, there is always a cost some how. I believe methods of sterilizations is a way someone can make $$ and women are the victims to this. Or at least I know I am, if only I could go back and do things over I would.

    1. I agree..I didn't sign papers to get dang clips on me. I feel the docs took it among their selves to do what they wanted without considering my health

  16. Hi, my name is Darreshia and I had a tubal ligation don almost two years ago. First I want to start by saying. I had the implanon and it ejected itself from my body with infection, that plus more caused me to say ok....i have no birth control options due to the severity of my sensitivity to birth control. So any how, I discussed these issues with my doc and long story short, they agreed to send me to an ob, to tie my tubes.now, this is the screwed part. One day, I missed my cycle and thought and called the doc to get paper work on what was actually done to me. Now, when I went in these people told me they were tying, burning them and so on, nothing was said about a dang clip. I FOUND OUT THAT I have a clip on my tubes. here it is almost two years later and I am having all these complications that I feel are a result of a clip being on my tube. Now, if I had a foriegn object eject itself out of my body with infection, why in the sam ham would I sign papers yo have a foriegn object left inside my body..period....I have gotten a bit scared by seeing the sideaffects of these fishle clips and I have to say I have experienced them all. I am thinking of trying to file a lawsuit, if possible. I have had constant uinary tract issues....pain in my abdominal area....abnormal menustral bleeding...and all..I am scared that theses things are fighting with my body because it is foreign. I need some advice....These people didn't say that is what they were doing, if so i would have opted out, especially due to my previous experience with the implanon. I signed papers stating that I was aware that m tubes were being burnt, now if i wanted to have a kid...i was hoping i just met that million dollar guy to get them untied....what have me upset is that they took it among their selves to put a foreign object in me. I would have rather them waking me up and explaining they couldn't tie them.I have had pelvic and belly ultrasound to see what is going on in me, but the results have not came back. my next step is to get an x-ray to see exactly where these things are. My gosh I can't believe this nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It is truly nothing but nonsense for sure. But the only good news out of this is that the clips are the easiest to reverse. The xray is the cheapest and easiest way to see where the clips are lying within your body. Docs perform the ultrasounds thinking that your pain must certainly be from something else entirely...I mean it can't be from metal clips from a tubal ligation right???? If you could touch the clips I have it would make complete sense to you why you would feel pain, and have bloating from the tissues being inflamed. If it can make sense to us in the non medical community, then why oh why can it not make sense to those who are supposedly better aware than we are? This is what I find so disturbing. My new Ob said that all he has ever heard from women with the clips is how much pain they feel, so he doesn't use them. I don't think they should be used, but more importantly, I don't think they should be placed without a woman's consent. And consenting to sterilization, does not mean consenting to metal clips. Plain and simple.

  18. Unfortunately I had this stupid procedure done in march of 09 because I was told it was dangerous for me to have anymore children. I told them if they were going to do it I wanted them burned and cut. Instead I find out after the fact that I had been clamped. Needless to say I was and still am pretty pissed. Since the procedure I have put on 75 lbs with nothing changing in my food habits. I have rediculous pain mainly in my right side. It is bad on a normal day but two days before af and the first three days of I just want to rip some ones head off. Af also lasts for roughly two weeks now and very heavy bleeding with lots of big clots. I've. Been back to the dr and was told this was normal. Yeah my ass! I never had these issues before having this done. I regret it every day I wake up in pain.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Does anyone know where I can find actual medical reports (journals, verified doctors statements etc.) about this issue? I go to a new doc in May, he has already reviewed my tests and he said "they are meant to fall off but I will still see you so we can discuss it". I am in a lot of pain, the last doc told me it was impossible for those "tiny little clips to cause ANY pain" then she sent me for a colonoscopy, which was perfectly normal. I would like to go into this appointment with a little bit of verifiable, professional medical ammunition so that I can convince this doctor that these need to come out. Any suggestions?

Hopefully we can all finally find someone to listen.

  20. I don't get what is so hard for doctors to comprehend that if the problems started after the tubal then its obvious that the tubal is to blame therefore take the problem out of the equation and remove the clips. Going to go to yet another doctor to hopefully get a resolution.

May not be daily but it was certaintly at least 5 days a week.. I went to the dr. a year ago regarding the itchiness AGAIN and we did a food allergy test and found I am allergic to corn and egg, so I just figured when I get those foods i get a reaction.. Well, in the last 3 weeks I have been experincing HIVES ALL over, the dr mentioned its an allergic reaction and perscribed some meds, that didn't work!! Tonight I looked at my husband and said whatif its the clips they used?? And that is how I found your website.. Anyone experience severe itching or hives????

  23. I am 34 years old and I had my TBL done in 2007 (by a military doctor, I am in the Army) and as of last week I have been experiencing sharp pain in my lower abdomen area. My husband took me to the ER immediately. I could barely walk, I was doubled over with sharp stabbing pain in my abdomen. At the hospital they did an abundance of test, e.g., pelvic examine, abdomen ultrasound, vagina ultrasound and a CT scan. What they found was one of the clips were missing from my tubes (and they also discovered a mass that is positive for the characteristics of a fibroid). When the doctor came in to tell us that they found absolutely nothing wrong with me but only a missing clip. He was so nonchalant and when we asked where was the clip exactly, he said it was floating around in my pelvic region. As not being surprised by his calmness of the situation, he said that this is not an URGENT situation, I was appalled. He gave me medication and sent me home. The medication he gave to me is for treating someone with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), REALLY!!! Now one week later, I am still suffering with this pain and I am unable to get an GYN appointment no sooner than 2-4 weeks. I went to the doctor again this morning because of the pain and I am now on bed rest for the next three days with Vicodin and Mobic (no clue what this is for). I do not understand how and why this is not considered an emergency but as you stated Michelle, the doctor who is saying it isn't serious enough for immediate attention has a penis. If something isn't done about this within the next couple of days, I am going to Patient Advocacy and filing a complaint. This is ridiculous, their job is to take care of Soldiers...well, this Soldier is being treated like crap.

  24. Thank you for this blog. I had my tubes tied in 2009. I woke up with extreme pain and it has never gone away. My sex life has been affected. I have had episodes of anxiety attacks, which I NEVER had before, very heavy bleeding with my periods and extreme pelvic pain. I feel bad for the many woman experiencing pain and problems, but am glad to know that what I am feeling is real. The doctor that did my tubal was completely not concerned and a few others doctors I had seen told me it was all in my head. I finally found a doctor that believed me and recommended getting the filshie clips removed. I would like to have more children and appreciate the comment about saving for the whole reversal instead of getting clips removed and then getting reversal done. I hope and pray it will get rid of the pain. I am on ibuprofin around the clock and now that is causing stomach problems.

  25. I got a TL clamp done a day after I gave birth to my fifth baby,a girl. This occured June 23, 2012. My baby is about to turn 3 mths old and I am perceiving that I am getting my first period. Now I am breastfeeding full time but I tend to get my period at the 3mth mark so I'm not surprised I have it. I've been feeling so regretful of doing this procedure. I wish I can go back and reverse. Not because I want more children but becaue I feel that I fixed something that wasn't broken. There were easier and more controllable ways for me to protect myself from having any more babies. My body does not feel right since this was done. I've been spotting and cramping since. I just made a doc appt for friday so lets see how this goes. But reading all your post made me feel how sure I am that I don't want this anymore.

  26. Hello, Thank you so much for creating this blog. I had a tubal ligation involving Filshie clips in 2008. Since then I've been experiencing terrible pain on my right and left sides, also my cycle has become extremely pain and very heavy. I've been suffering from fatigue, anxiety and depression after having the surgery. I too addressed the issue with my OBGYN doctor and I was told that it was all in my head because I knew the clips were there. being as though my cycle is so heavy and has been since 2008, I've become severe anemic and I've received three blood transfusions and I get Iron through IV once a week. It's been four years that I've been suffering with this. I understand how each of you are feeling and it is very depressing to feel like noone understands what you are going through. I finally found a doctor that will listen and I have a consultation for surgery on Monday. Never give up ladies there is always hope so have faith and SEEK ADVICE FROM AS MANY DOCTORS UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THE CORRECT ANSWERS. Sincerely Mei Mei!

    2. Mei Mei: i had the SAME ISSUE, and for the last year I'd had "undiagnosed" stomach pain. finally in june, they gave me a diagnostic laproscopy and found that one of my filshie clips had migrated 180 degrees and was embedded in my bladder. ever since my tubal in 2007, my periods sucked and i had iron-deficiency anemia. they gave me a hysterectomy (uterus & cervix, i still have my ovaries) in august, and removed the clips. my anemia seems to be gone, since my periods are gone. i do, however, still have pain that i thought would be cured by the removal of the filshie clip from my bladder, so i need to investigate that more. it's been a long year, i lost a job over it and have spent many days were i couldn't even get out of bed from the pain. i wish you the best!!! and thanks to michelle for the advice regarding an endocrinologist, because i hadn't considered seeing one but that might be my next bet after i follow up with my PCP.

    3. The pain! Oh gosh, the pain! My tubes were "tied" minutes after giving birth to my daughter April 2011. I woke up mid-surgery. My dr suggested I go back to sleep. I was terrified. About 6 months later I went to see him for an unrelated pituitary tumor. He had to send me for new MRIs & refer me to a specialist. During the appt I questioned him about the amount of pain radiating from my left abdomen. I asked if that was normal after having them burnt. He then told me I just had 2 tiny clips.

I went for the MRIs and was going to ask the specialist to refer me to a new Dr. I called my Dr and called and called. I went by his office several times. Each time, the door was locked & the lights were off. This went on for about 7-8 months! I never got to the specislist. I'd spent so much time looking for this Dr, my insurance expired. I worked in the casino industry & hours determined eligibility. It was slow. Anyway, Im left with this pituitary tumor and these awful clips in my body!

They hurt so badly! Mostly on my left. My flow is easily 3 times heavier than its ever been! My youngest is my 8th child. This last summer i visited to Emergency Rooms for abdominal pain. The 1st did an xray & the tech asked me to take off my panties as the metal jewlery was interferring with the xray...I wasnt wearing any! The right side of my abdomen had 2 staple looking things. The left had a long thick straight pin looking thing. The tech said he'd never seen anything like it! The ER dr advised me the pain was my imagination & the strange objects "Im not sure, you'll need to ask a surgeon." His exact words!!!! ER 2 said I had swollen lymphnodes. Prescribed me pain killers & antibiotics & sent me home.

Im always in pain, Im itchy at random & i get strange poor circulation looking rashes. HELP!!!! I have to get these removed! I cant afford out of pocket cost & i dont qualify for work or state funded insurance.

  27. I had a tubal ligation done in March 2011 and when I woke up I was in so much pain they had to administer quite a large amount of morphine to stop the pain. I had no idea at the time what the pain was caused from. I assumed it was from the surgery and that it would subside. I had the ligation done on thursday and by Friday night I was in so much pain I couldn't move, it bought me to tears. I just assumed it was normal and the pain would settle down in a couple of weeks. Over the next week I was in a lot of pain but once again put it down to the after effects of the TL. The pain settled down quite a bit but never went away. Three months after my surgery I spoke to my doctor about it and he said it was normal to still be getting a bit of pain so I just continued on as normal as I could. By 5 months I was getting concerned that something was wrong as I was still getting the pain. I had severe spasms in both of my sides and the pain radiated down the inside of my legs, up my sides, across my back in it felt like someone had kicked me in the backside. I thought surely this is not normal and asked my surgeon about it and she informed me that it was not normal and that she would need to do a laparoscopy to check for Endometriosis as the symptoms sounded a lot the same although I have never had abnormal bleeding, although i have always suffered heavy periods. I had the laparoscopy which revealed nothing, I was devastated as we were certain that's what it was. I asked my surgeon if it could be from the tubal ligation and she said no, she would not even consider it a possiblitly. I never thought it was anything she did wrong but that my body just doesn't agree with the clips and I have always suspected that from the moment I woke up with the pain. I went back to see my surgeon and she advise trying the Depo injection which I knew wouldn't make any differenct but through process of elimination said I would try it and see and it has made no difference as I suspected. I have had ultrasounds and all the blood tests possible and all have come back clear. I have been to a Gastroenterologist and he said it was nothing to do with that, I have been to a urologist who also said the same thing. I know that it is from my TL and my doctor has found a Gynaecologist who has dealt with women who have suffered the same symptoms as I have and it has been caused by the clips. My next step is to go and see him and get the clips removed. The pain is there constantly but just varies on the severity of pain. As I sit and type this I have pain in my right side and pain going down my leg. I have had this for almost 2 years and it's making me depressed and affecting my whole life. I will do what ever it takes for it to stop. A couple of months ago I was in so much pain I had to leave work, I could not stand up or sit down. I went to my doctor and he thought I had a UTI which came back negative and I was so upset when he told me. I have been so worried the pain will come back like that, it was so excrutiating I could barely stand it.

  28. Hello ladies! So I had my TL done 9/4/2003 post partum surgery outpatient was not told of any Filshie Clips but about 2004 I had severe cramping before the TL never pain ( my surgery outpatient I eveb went to the mall after i was released from the hospital i can tolerate pain trust me) so anyway 2004 I'm in pain I see my new Gyno not the one who performed my surgery n delivered both my children, New Gyno puts me on Birth control pills even with my tubed tied, still not helping so she gives me the depo... Nope still in pain i never thought at that point it had to do with my TL ok... So my insurance changes I'm with Kaiser I am sent for a colposcopy for biopsy because of my pain just on my right side is where im hurting, i ask the Dr. Could this be from my Tubal ligation? She said oh no not possible to cause you this much pain your having. Biopsy comes back normAL no findings so they give me vicodin and metformin for possible PCOS a couple months pass still in pain so they did an in office intrauterine biopsy to see if i had endometriosis?? Results normal not the issue my insurance again changes I have new Dr and I talk to them about everything, i finally requested my medical chart from my OB who did my surgery low and behold filshie clips noted on pre op... I asked again is their a possibility my pain is from these clips answer no im sure its not so Im tested for thyroid issues scan of my neck.revealed no abnormal findings... So living off Ibuprofen all these years comes to September 28th 2012 I can't walk, in so much pain, fever, throwing up my husband rushes me to ER they run ultrasound, pelvic exam, urine cultures and CT scan come in to tell me well you don't have kidney stones, your not pregnant, no gall stones but he goes your clip from your left fallopian tube is no longer on the tubes but has migrated to the right side lower abdomen where you pointed out your pain! I said what do i do now he said follow up with the dr who did your TL immediately I was prescribed vicodin, muscles relaxers and zofran. I called that dr oct. 1st called my current gyno also which she seen me right away and set me up for an hSG test. The other Dr. Still no response then finally i get a call from her and set appt 12/8/12 she tells me we deff need to get that clip out! I said yes but I do Not want another put on and do not want my tubes touched (she has not seen me since 2004) so she saud ok I'm going to talk to my colleague about your case. I'm thinking yes thank god this will get removed! She referred me to yes her colleague which happens to be an Reproductive endocrinologist! And she has in her head since I dont want the clip she is doing a tubal reversal?? Wtf?? And if I don't opt in for that procedure she can remove my floated migrated clip and burn my tube and completely remove my right tube she says because its obvious this form of Birth control my body is rejecting! Ummm no so i called the Dr. Who referred me I'm just waiting for a call back. If they would have listened to me 9 years ago when this pain started I would not have endured so much emotional issues, depression and bills up the a** from constant appts and tests! My hsg did reveal my left tube filling up with dye with slight spill but not a lot so the tube is slightly open.my sexual desire was blown out the water when all this pain started so sex hardly happens. Everytime we have sex I hold my right side because it hurts so bad :( we now know why... Good luck and i will keep you posted! I hate filshie clips!

  29. I had my op 13 years ago when I was 27. Within 2 years I began to have symptoms. I developed allergies and was tested positive for gold, nickel and palladium but don't know if I was tested for titanium.
I am in the process of collecting as much evidence as possible. I am determined to get this sorted out but my many symptoms make it difficult and I keep doubting myself. Any support or advice is most welcome, I can't give up now x

  30. Well I have read thru most of your posts and thought it was time for me to share. I too had a TL with Filshie Clips. I had mine in 2004 I believe (poss 05) and each period was worse and worse. I never had bad periods pre-TL. I finally saw a dr in 2010 and we worked on various ways to help the periods and the pain. We tried several different types of birth control and nothing really helped. I never thought it was the actual clip causing the pain but I knew beyond a shadow of doubt the it was from the TL. I finally had to have an endometrial ablation in 2011 as a last resort before having a hysterectomy. I know all about the horrible cramping and the ridiculous heavy flows. I have had several X-Ray's for various things over the years and you can not see the clips any where. I actually had one today for lower back pain, they X-Rayed all the way down to my pelvic bone and the clips are no where to be found. Not that I can see anyways. I must say that the ablation did drastically help my pain and heavy bleeding. I have a new dilemma now. I am in a new relationship and we want to have a child or two together. I have two, he has none. Since the Filshie clips caused so much trouble and I had to get the ablation this means I should not even attempt to have another child. It could kill us both not to mention the damage it could cause. For those not familiar the ablation burns off the lining of your uterine walls so you can't build up a sufficient lining for the embryo to attach itself to and get the nourishment needed for healthy growth. I am angry at this dr for putting me thru all of this. The dr I used only said "are you sure" and scheduled me. He didn't say "hey we can use some other long term forms of birth control" or let me know that there were any other options besides condoms and the pill. Given the proper knowledge I probably would have opted for another form of long term birth control. The only thing working in my favor is the fact that the Filshie clip is the easiest to and most successful to reverse and by the grace of God I still have plenty lining to sustain a healthy pregnancy. If anyone has any experience with reversals or ablation or just would like to chat feel free to email me shellielatham@gmail.com

  31. I had my TL done about 16 months ago. They told me the clips was my best alternative to birth control. The follwoing week was hell with the pain ne depression of what had just been done. I have 3 kids and divorced twice. I had always wanted four kids and was worried about if I meet someone new and they want kids so they said this is the easiest to reverse. Since then I have gained roughly 50 pounds for absolutely no reason. My periods went from a normal cycle of 4 days long to 2 weeks long and two weeks gap in between each. It was extremely painful and heavy. They then decided to do a novasure which then eliminated my bleeding. But even before my novasure I would get sharp stabbing pains on my sides of my lower abdomen and stretch across as thru to my back it was Intense enough to put me in the fetal position on the floor. An I have a extremely High pain tolerance and this was brutal. Doctor tried telling me that i was having cysts rupturing . But it was 7-8 times. And the pain felt like someone was stabbing me and i couldnt even move. Sex was unbarrable. They did a ultrasound and the tech wouldn't even let me leave the room before she called my doc. They didnt explain much just gave me ultrums and naproxen and a antibiotic and sent me on my way. That was 2 months ago. Im still expericing the discomfort and the weight gain.

  32. I have them and I was never told they were going to be put in until after it was already done. They told me throughout my pregnancy that they would be tied. My skin does not react well to metal. I have gone to the allergist to see why I keep breaking out in allergic reactions everyday. I have to be on antihistamines 24/7 or I get terrible hives. I just want them out, but insurance won't cover it. danilovenotes@gmail.com

  33. Hi my name is Anna, I got sterilised 9 years ago using the filshie clips when I was 22 years old. It was at the the right descision or so I thought.
For many years I've been back and forth to my GP and local hospital for ultrasound scans, blood tests, period diaries, laparoscopy, internal swabs, internal investigations and every time every result seems to come back NORMAL!! I suffer with terrible pelvic pains and I mainly get it on my left side but I do suffer with the right side at times, I cannot pin point when the pains will happen as there is no pattern, the pain could last hours to days and it's just awful, I feel as though my whole undercarriage is tender and I'm unable to make love to my hubby when this happens and I also get pressure when I sit down.
Well for some reason I recently last month decide to go and visit a new GP as I started to look up my filshie clip symptoms and to my shock as you many women have discovered, there does seem to be a problem with these clips.
My GP was fantastic and she actually heard of this PTLS and referred me private to start investigating and to have an x-ray to see if my clips have migrated.
I attended my private consultation last week and the doctor was just awful, he wouldn't acknowledge the PTLS as he said it's a load of rubbish and even if my clips had migrated he wouldn't remove them as they have a life time expectancy on them, I argued and said it's my body and that I wouls like them out, he went as far as saying if he was going to do the operation he would remove my tubes completely!!!! I was HORRIFIED and responded with that's extreme isn't it and he just rolled his eyes and said what do you need them for!!! He also suggested that other clinics will only tell me what I want to hear. At this point I asked him to stop talking and I walked out.
I drove home crying my eyes out.
I have made a complaint to the private hospital, the doctor said he would offer me another consultation with my reply as NO thanks.
I've actually found another private clinic in Nottingham uk with a reversal clinic with Dr Pickles.
Dr pickles was very helpful and was aware of PTLS he said he would just go ahead with the reversal and that then gives me the option of another pregnancy if I chose to, rather than ripping my tubes out, his secretary Mandy was very helpful and understanding.

  36. I am 30 years old and had filshie clamps after my 3rd C-section in November of 2011. I immediately felt immense pain. It was undoubtedly the clamps because my 2 previous C-sections didn't feel this way. For the first few weeks it felt as though metal was rubbing on my hip bones! It's been almost 2 years and I've had, for the first time in my life, VERY irregular periods, bleeding for 5 months straight! Every time I ovulate I can feel this shooting pain in my sides as if my filopian tubes are going to rupture. It's horrible. I feel like I was given very inadequate information about the clamps. My Dr. just stated that it's the most common thing now and has no side affects! I don't have the time or energy to get them removed right now but I regret ever agreeing to getting them.

  37. I am So happy that I recently found MORE ANSWERS on these "filshie clips" Upon receiving my clips in '07, I was not INTENTIONALLY informed of what sort of procedure was being done. ALOT of times since then I have had NOTHING except problems, and like the rest of you all they all tell me its "nothing" n go to another Dr!!! I learned at a E.R. visit they asked me to remove a belt or underwear or pants I had on......I felt like an idiot !!! I didn't have anything on underneath!!! Well NOW I don't know who else to go to ....I have went to Doctors WHILE I am having pain/problems and they STILL say NOTHING is wrong. I ve had Lost count of the numerous pelvic exams, and blood tests, and pelvic ultrasounds, and vaginal ultrasounds! I don't agree with their solution of the "pill" is NOT a solution, IF I WANTED THE PILL I WOULDVE ASKED FOR THE PILL!! I am waiting to see one of those commercials with a lawyer(s) asking "have you or anyone you know ever had......." I have tried to get these off FOR ALMOST 2 years. I recently decided I want another baby ......I have 5 already and I am 32yo. I NEVER wanted them tied in the first place My MOM did!!!! It was just a "drugged & exhausted moment" where I couldn't change my mind !!! I haven't dealt with my "bloating" (another one of my "problems" since getting them done) WELL its been about 8-9 Months since its happened and Lately after my last Menstrual, which was SHORTER than usual !! and NOW I am just a Little bloated not as bad but still there I am 5'1" and usually around 130ish....When my tummy bloats it is very noticeable.....more frustrating than anything and LOTS of difficulty breathing ! IDK where to go or who to ask Cause the Dr'S apparently don't know!!!! I really hope to get them removed cause we really want a baby and this bloating is PURE TORTURE!!! Well I hope all of you ladies get help cause I UNDERSTAND ......I think I may ask to see the endocrinologist as stated before......So thank you

  38. Hello I had my tubal using filshie clips about ago, I had the worst problems after. First constant itching, hives, spotting, horrible menstrual cramps, eczema on my head. And then the most recent swollen lymph nodes and polyps in my uterus. Of course all the doctors said there is no connection to to clips(but I know my body and something was wrong). Finally I did another round of blood test and an ultrasound, I told my Dr. I wanted to have them removed. I just had my surgery last week and WOW no more hives, itching and all of my lymph nodes have begin to go down. Now how can you tell me that there is no connection

  39. hello, i am a mum of three and i have had c-sections with every pregnancy, the last c-sec i was sterilised, since then i have had a nightmare of a time! after years of oh its in your head, the pain is depression blah blah, after finding your site i realise now how much the drs cover their own arses due to negilence, i live in the UK and the NHS is an absolute nightmare. they have injected me with steriods on my scar, my pubic bone and inside my cervix to try and get the pudendal nerve. i have adenomyosis, follicular cysts on the left side and have uterine adhesions, however NONE of the drs have not even suggested my filshie clips! i am real desperate in alot of pain and i am ignored completely, and all they want is to shove mind altering drugs which i became sucidal on, been off for 18 months but on high dose of tapenadol, to the point i have given up altogether with the docs. i know i just have to deal with it as noone will help or even entertain that there's something wrong, NO word of PTLS, i cant afford private and NHS wont admit it, i really at my wits end, my partner is just angry at me saying i should do things to get it sorted but i try too, and come up with a dead end all they want to do is drug me to my eyeballs! we are at the edge of splitting because of this! i have ruined my partners life and my children's for the past 9 years, the constant pain is horrendous! i am a failure as a mum, partner and a human being! sometimes i feel they would be better off without me. i am real desperate do you know of any drs in UK that will entertain the idea of PTLS.. 9 years! and now i have 2 swellings on left side near navel and end of c'sec scar, down to 50kg in weight being sick, diarrhoea hair loss, got more symptoms but its just like everybody else on here! anyone lead me to the right doc here in uk.. I am very desperate my 13 year old daughter is in reission from cancer and i urgently need to get this sorted just in case the cancer comes back, and i wont be able to care for her like a mum should Please help!

    2. I am in agony too hun, but paid £144 to see a top GYN surgeon privately, put put me stright to the top of the NHS waiting list. I have an MRI, which shows all the problems my clips are causing. They are due to remove them in 6 weeks, but due the pain, my Dr has faxed my surgeon today for an immediate op. I had hold of my surgeons's secretary's phone number and I have driven her insane daily until I got an op date, but that now is being bought forward after the fax went off today.
